As our loved ones get older, more frail and requiring more assistance, we are faced with the task of looking at our option to care for our loved one and hopefully this FAQ and resource link answer some of those questions

What type of care can I entrust my love one?

While there are many different available choices we can arrange to care for our loved one, the most common choice boils down to two options - assisted living and board care.

What's the difference between assisted living & board and care?

While assisted living and board care are somewhat similar in the way they are license and regulated as Residential care facilities for the elderly under Title 22 Div 6, they are different in terms of what the family and ultimately the resident can expect from
 

Assisted living are usually large complex facilities with an average resident of 20 or more,  that offer single or shared private room similar to a small apartment, restaurant style dining room, large common area and some may include library, gym and other amenities similar to a campus. 
 

Board and care are usually small converted single family home with an average of 6 or fewer resident, that offer a private or shared private room similar to what your love one currently or used to have in their own home, they are in usually located in our residential neighborhood community and have the feel of living in your own home with family. 
 

What is right for my loved one?

While there is no specific answer to this question as each family and resident need is unique and different, there is some general idea on what to look for when deciding. 
 

Assisted living is for someone who prioritized large social group in a communal living arrangement.
 

Board and care is for someone who prioritized small home like family setting.
